The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over Arvind Kejriwal’s remarks regarding claims of “fake” registration of voters from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in the voter list ahead of the assembly elections. Protested against.
Hundreds of protesters held placards with slogans like “Purvanchal anti-Kejriwal” and raised slogans against AAP convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and some tried to break security barriers near his residence.
Slogans like ‘Litti chokha khaayenge, Kejriwal bhagaayenge’, ‘Chhathi Maiya ki Jai’ and ‘Purvanchal anti-Kejriwal murdabad’ were echoed during the protest. In Delhi, residents of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand are called ‘Purvanchali’.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said, “Arvind Kejriwal has always insulted the people of Purvanchali community. He had made many objectionable statements during the Covid-19 pandemic and now they are calling him ‘fake voters’. We will not forget this insult and neither will the people of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar. Delhiites will always remember this betrayal.
Kejriwal on Thursday accused the BJP of manipulating the voter list by registering “fake” voters from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in his constituency New Delhi ahead of the assembly elections.
A protestor told PTI, “Purvanchalis have been called fake voters. This anger will not subside until we remove Kejriwal from here.
