Bengaluru, Sep 3 (IANS) Kannada superstar Darshan is in jail in connection with the fan murder case. A chargesheet is likely to be filed against him this week in the murder case. Sources say the police are in the final stages of preparation.
Actor Darshan, his partner Pavithra Gowda and 15 others are accused in the Fan Renukaswamy murder case. Sources have claimed that according to the remand copy submitted to the 24th ACMM court, Darshan has allegedly confessed to his involvement in the murder case.
Darshan is lodged in Bellary jail. He has been made accused number two in the murder case. The superstar’s life story is no less than a film story. From starting his career as a light boy to becoming a superstar and being embroiled in controversies and crimes, Darshan has always been in the news in Karnataka. But this has not affected his fan following.
Allegedly, Darshan and his gang kidnapped Renukaswamy and then brutally murdered him. Despite this, people’s craze for Darshan remains intact.
Recently when Darshan was being shifted to Bellary jail, despite precautionary measures, fans queued up on the roads and in front of the jail to catch a glimpse of their favourite star. Police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. The die-hard fans have vowed to take revenge on the media persons and YouTubers who criticised Darshan. They say that they will take action after Darshan is released.
This has shocked civil society and the general public. According to police sources, fans, mainly youngsters, are indulging in threatening behaviour without fear of the law, which is worrying. There has been no formal complaint in this regard, so they are unable to take action.
This is the second time Darshan has been jailed. In 2011, he was arrested and sent to jail for brutally assaulting his wife Vijayalakshmi. According to sources, after repeated assaults and insults, his wife lodged a police complaint. After the actor’s arrest, his fans were furious. The police had to struggle to maintain law and order in Bengaluru. Darshan was kept in Bengaluru Central Jail for 14 days. After apologizing to his wife and maintaining peace with her, the actor was released on bail.
