Bimol Akoizam, Lok Sabha member from Inner Manipur, said that if the free movement of people in the state is stopped, then the normal situation in Manipur cannot be restored.
The gesture of Akoizam was towards the restrictions by some groups when the Thangzing hills went to the Thangzing hills, which is a sacred site for the Meeti people.
The Congress MP told reporters, ‘Meeti people cannot visit the holy places in Thangzing hills (in Churachandpur district) and Kobru (in Kangpokpi district). This is not a communal issue but a basic issue. It is a matter of fundamental rights and governance of citizens. ”
Akoizam said, “Unless there will be independent movement of people and internal displaced people do not return to their homes, there cannot be a normal situation in the state.”
Akoizam also expressed displeasure at not allowing permission to speak in Parliament during the declaration of President’s rule. He claimed, “I and Outer Manipur MP Alfred were present… but he was not allowed to speak.”
