New Delhi, 27 January (IANS). Amid increasing cases of Gilian Barre Syndrome (GBS) in Pune, Maharashtra, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday deployed a seven -member team to support public health intervention and management in the state.
So far 111 GBS cases have been reported in Pune.
Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar said on Monday that 17 patients suffering from GBS have been kept on ventilator.
The high-level team of the Center consists of multi-disciplinary experts. It aims to support state health officials in establishing public health intervention and management in view of GBS’s increase in suspicious and strong cases.
The Ministry of Health said that the Central Team for Maharashtra included the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) Delhi, Nimhans Bangalore, Regional Office of Health and Family Welfare and seven experts taken from the National Institute of Virus Sciences (NIV), Pune.
It is in addition to three experts from NIV, Pune, who were already supporting local authorities. This team will work closely with the State Health Departments to take stock of the ground status and recommend necessary public health intervention.
The Union Health Ministry informed about the situation by monitoring the situation and taking active steps by coordinating with the state.
Meanwhile, the State Health Department advised that GBS can be stopped to some extent by taking general precautions, such as drinking boiled water/bottled water, washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating, hen and meat fine Cook from, raw or half -baked food, especially salads, eggs, kebabs or seafood.
