Gorakhpur, September 20 (IANS). A weekly tribute ceremony was organized on Friday to commemorate the 55th death anniversary of Brahmalin Mahant Digvijaynath Maharaj and the 10th death anniversary of Rashtrasant Brahmalin Mahant Avedyanath Maharaj. Former MP Dr. Ram Vilas Vedanti, who came from Ayodhyadham, said that if any monastery is named in the name of social harmony and Hindutva in the entire country, then it is Gorakhnath Math.
He said that Gorakshpeeth has always been vocal in the name of Hindutva and social harmony. The success of the Ram Mandir movement was not possible without the leadership of Gorakshpeeth. Ramlala appeared due to the leadership of Mahant Digvijaynath. In 1984, when no saint was ready to lead the Ram Mandir movement due to fear of the Congress government, then Mahant Avedyanath led the temple movement by saying that he is not concerned about the Gorakhnath temple but about Ramlala, Ram Mandir must be built. If Mahant Avedyanath had not accepted the leadership, the temple movement would not have been able to continue.
Dr. Vedanti said that if Mahant Digvijaynath had been alive in 1973, Bangladesh would not have been a separate country but a state of India. No one has done as much work as Digvijaynath ji and Avedyanath ji did to remove untouchability from the society. Praising the leadership of the current Gorakshapeethadhiswar and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, he said that today if there is communal violence in any other state, the Hindu there shouts that he wants the leadership of Yogi Adityanath. Today, the Hindus of Bangladesh also want the leadership of Yogi Adityanath for their protection.
In the tribute meeting, Jagadguru Anantanand Dwaracharya Kashipeethadhiswar Swami Dr. Ram Kamal Das Vedanti said that Mahant Digvijaynath and Mahant Avedyanath taught to protect religion and nation with self-respect. The role of a saint is not limited to just meditating in a hut and this is what the Mahants of Gorakshapeeth did.
Mahant Shernath of Gorakhnath Ashram in Junagadh, Gujarat said that Mahant Digvijaynath and Mahant Avedyanath dedicated their lives for the society and the nation. They have made an unprecedented contribution to the development of society including education and health. Vice Chancellor of Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Prof. Poonam Tandon said that Mahant Digvijaynath’s personality was charismatic and extraordinary. He was a leading warrior of nation-centric politics. It is said about Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, a reflection of the spark of education lit by him, that currently there are 52 institutions under it. In fact, the Shiksha Parishad has not 52 but 53 institutions because Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University is also a part of this council.
He said that the dream of establishing Gorakhpur University came true when Mahant Digvijaynath ji, the founder of Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, transferred two institutions of this council to Gorakhpur University. Gorakhpur University will always be indebted to him. The Vice Chancellor also paid emotional tribute to the late Mahant Avedyanath ji Maharaj.
