Ranchi, 24 January (IANS). Ghulam Ahmed Mir, in-charge of Jharkhand party, has said that the government should take any decision on the basis of the Waqf Amendment Bill-2024, based on the majority of the majority of the Joint Parliamentary Committee meetings.
Talking to IANS on Friday, he said that all the people will give their opinion in the meetings on this issue. This issue should be widely opposed. Apart from political parties, people would like to put their side in front of JPC.
Ahmed said that after listening to everyone’s words, the government should take a decision regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill. It should not be done at all that the government remained adamant on its own by ignoring the majority opinion. This is not a fate of Jamhuriyat.
It is noteworthy that on August 8, 2024, after the Waqf Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha, a joint parliamentary committee was formed on this issue, which is going to various states and listening to the people of political parties and people of different classes. BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, chairman of this Joint Parliamentary Committee, has been appointed. In the 31 -member Joint Parliamentary Committee, 21 MPs from Lok Sabha and 10 Rajya Sabha MPs have been placed. This parliamentary committee has to submit a report on this amendment bill by the first week of the upcoming session of Parliament. The Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 proposes a variety of amendments to the Waqf Act.
After the bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha, the opposition parties had severely criticized the proposed amendments as a violation of the religious rights of Muslims, while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party says that these amendments will bring transparency in the functioning of the Waqf Board and make them accountable.
