Even after returning to Sedam due to family responsibilities in 1973, Basavaraj Patil’s dedication to social work did not diminish. In 1975, he established the Kottal Basaveshwar Indian Education Committee, which was aimed at providing quality education in rural areas. Starting in a small room, this initiative expanded over time and today more than 50 educational institutions are being run under it, which reflects their commitment to education.

Basavraj Patil entered active politics through the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He represented Karnataka in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and also served as the state president of the party. His leadership ability and organizational skills played an important role in strengthening the party in the state.
Since childhood, his trend was towards the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), due to which he became an active member of the Sangh. His loyalty and dedication gave him an opportunity to work in North India, especially Bihar and Jharkhand as a preacher. There he contributed significantly to social and cultural activities for six years.
Basavaraj Patil’s politics has been inspired by Gandhian principles. He believes that politics is not only a medium for power, but a tool of social service. In his view, creative work and social uplift are integral parts of politics. He insists on working in the widespread interest of society beyond electoral politics. He was a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council from 1990 to 96. Whereas in 1992 become members of the Public Accounts Committee, Karnataka Legislative Council. In 1998–1999, become members of the twelfth Lok Sabha members, Human Resource Development Committee and Value Based Education Sub-Committee, as per the Ministry of Urban Affairs and Employment, Consultative Committee Member, Joint Committee Member on Women Empowerment.
