Assembly elections are being held in Haryana (Haryana assembly elections 2024). Voting for the elections is to be held in the state on October 5 and counting of votes and results are to be declared on October 8. Congress has been out of power in the state for a decade and is now making big promises to come to power. However, due to the history of not fulfilling promises, it is becoming difficult for Congress to get the trust of the people. Congress is making a lot of promises in the 2024 elections to return to power in Haryana after 10 years, but the path to power in the hands of Congress is not easy, because breaking promises is in the DNA of Congress.
There are a total of 90 assembly seats in Haryana. The majority figure is 46 seats. Congress is contesting on 89 seats. Bhiwani seat has been left for CPI(M). Congress’ habit of making promises and then going back on them may prove costly in Haryana elections. Two big examples of Congress breaking promises are Haryana’s neighbouring states Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
Farmers’ loans will not be waived in Rajasthan
On November 26, while addressing an election rally in Pokhran, Rajasthan, the then Congress President Rahul Gandhi had said that if the Congress government is formed in the Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2018, the farmers’ loans will be waived off in just 10 days. The Congress government was formed in Rajasthan in 2018 and lasted for five years, but the loans of all the farmers were never waived off. Due to the breach of promise, the people of Rajasthan uprooted the Congress government in 2023 and formed the BJP government.
Youth did not get employment in Himachal
Himachal Pradesh assembly elections were held in November 2022. During the election campaign, Congress’s 10 guarantees brought it to power. During the election campaign in Himachal Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi had even promised that one lakh youth would be given employment in the first cabinet meeting of her government. The first cabinet meeting of the 15th Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government was held in January 2023, but the promise of employment is still unfulfilled. The government has definitely formed a cabinet sub-committee.
Women are promised a pension of Rs 1500 per month
The total population of Himachal Pradesh is about 75 lakh, out of which 36.9 lakh are women. Congress had promised in the Himachal elections that women will be given a pension of Rs 1500 every month. Congress’ promise in Himachal was also not fulfilled on time. Congress started the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana, but by adding the condition of pension to only one member of a single family, it dashed the hopes of many.
Electricity pensioners are not getting their rights
In Himachal Pradesh, government employees have to go on strike for their rightful salaries and financial benefits. Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Pensioners have had to express their anger for the payment of pending financial benefits. Electricity pensioners have warned the Congress government in Himachal that if the payment is not made by December 31, they will send their board cards to the Election Commission.
