Chandigarh, September 22 (IANS) The activity of political parties has increased in the election-bound state of Haryana. A few months ago, it was considered a direct contest between the ruling party of the state BJP and the main opposition party Congress, but the activity of Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘Aam Aadmi Party’ has given a triangular turn to the contest.
Recently, the Supreme Court granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal with certain conditions in the so-called liquor policy scam case. A few days ago, another senior party leader Manish Sisodia also got bail. As soon as he came out of jail, Arvind Kejriwal took several big steps. Resigning from the post of Delhi Chief Minister and holding a grand roadshow in the electoral state of Haryana were part of the same electoral step. During the roadshow on September 20, Kejriwal made a statement that has become a topic of discussion among all the political parties contesting elections in Haryana.
In fact, Arvind Kejriwal started his election campaign by doing a road show in Haryana on Friday. During this, he said that no government will be formed in the state without the ‘Aam Aadmi Party’. Due to the bail granted to two senior leaders of the party from jail, enthusiasm and excitement was already visible among the AAP workers, while this statement of his has added fuel to the enthusiasm of the party supporters.
While there were speculations about AAP’s alliance with Congress till a few days ago, it is now clear that both the parties will contest the elections separately. Many meanings are being drawn from Kejriwal’s statement that no government will be formed in Haryana without the support of AAP.
The first meaning of Kejriwal’s statement is that the ruling party of the national capital Delhi and Punjab, AAP, is now very serious about expanding its presence in the third state Haryana. However, the party’s performance was quite disappointing last time and it got less than one percent votes in the 2019 assembly elections, but if this time the party succeeds in increasing its vote percentage and increases it to four to five percent and succeeds in winning seven to eight seats, then the party will come into the role of kingmaker in a state with 90 assembly seats.
Any party needs 46 seats for majority in Haryana and in such a case, if a third party gets five or more seats, it can play a very important role in toppling or forming a government. However, the strategy of Aam Aadmi Party for Haryana clearly shows that the party is vocal against BJP and Prime Minister Modi, while it is silent about Congress. On the other hand, in the alliance formed for the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Congress and AAP were part of the same opposition alliance India. In such a situation, there is still a strong possibility of both the parties coming together after the election results.
