Beirut, September 30 (IANS). Hezbollah has confirmed that in addition to its main leader Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, another senior leader, Ali Karaki, has also been killed in Israeli air strikes. These attacks took place in the southern areas of Beirut. Karaki was the chief of the southern front.
On Sunday, Hezbollah said in a statement that Karaki “was martyred along with some of his jihadist comrades in an enemy airstrike that also killed Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah.”
On Friday evening, Israeli warplanes attacked Hezbollah’s headquarters in Dahiya, a southern suburb of Beirut, killing Nasrallah and some other commanders of the organization. This information has been given by Xinhua news agency.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed on Sunday that they have killed Hezbollah’s security chief Nabil Kouk in an airstrike on Saturday. However, he did not tell where the attack took place.
The IDF said Kouk was one of Hezbollah’s top leaders and had recently been engaged in carrying out terrorist activities against Israel and its citizens.
In October 2020, the US declared Kauk a global terrorist. The US said that Kouk had taken part in events organized by Hezbollah for slain Hezbollah militants and Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Qassem Soleimani (who was killed in a US drone strike in January 2020).
The attacks destroyed several residential buildings, killing at least six people, injuring 91 and causing widespread destruction in the area. This information was given by local media.
These attacks are the latest developments in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. It started on October 8, 2023, when Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in support of Hamas. In response to which Israel launched artillery and air strikes in southern Lebanon.
