Amidst the financial crisis, the Himachal government has taken a big decision and has decided not to pay salary to all the ministers including CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu for two months. Along with this, the Chief Parliamentary Secretary will also not draw his salary for the next two months. The Chief Minister and the ministers have taken this decision in view of the financial condition of the state.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the state is facing a huge loss in revenue due to the discontinuation of GST compensation after June 2022. Due to this, the state has to suffer a loss of Rs 2500-3000 crore annually. The restoration of the old pension scheme has also reduced the state’s borrowing capacity by about Rs 2000 crore. Explaining these challenges, CM Sukhu said that it will not be easy to get out of the current economic crisis.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that he is not getting any help from the central government. He said, the revenue deficit grant in the year 2023-24 was Rs 8,058 crore, which has been reduced to Rs 6,258 crore this year. That is, a reduction of Rs 1800 crore. Next year this subsidy is expected to be reduced by Rs 3,000 crore and due to this it will be reduced to only Rs 3,257 crore. CM Sukhu also mentioned the assessment of post-disaster needs in Himachal. He said that the state needs Rs 9,042 crore for this, but has not received any funds from the central government yet.
