New Delhi, October 29 (IANS). Census may start in the country next year i.e. 2025. According to media reports, this process, which will start in 2025, is planned to be completed by 2026. The last census was conducted in the country in the year 2011, hence this time the process is considered very important. Let us know how much impact the census to be held next year will have on the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
When the last census was conducted in 2011, the country’s population had increased to 1.21 billion (1,21,08,54,977). The population had increased by 17.7 percent in the last decade. According to the 2011 census, during that time the population of men in the country was more than 62 crores and the population of women was said to be more than 58 crores.
Earlier, a new census was to be held in the country in the year 2021, but it was postponed due to Covid, now it is expected to be held in 2025. Earlier, the tenure of the country’s Census Commissioner and Registrar General Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan was also extended, his tenure has been extended till 2026.
In fact, in the year 2002, the Atal Bihari led government had made the 84th amendment. According to this, he had postponed the delimitation for 25 years. This meant that the delimitation would be done after the 2031 census. However, after the news of census came out, speculations about the possibilities of delimitation have also increased.
According to media reports, there is a possibility that after this the government may start the process of delimitation for redefinition of electoral constituencies. This is expected to increase the number of seats in the country. Women reservation may also be implemented. Its biggest impact may be on the Lok Sabha elections to be held in the year 2029.
In recent times, along with the census, the issue of caste census has also gained momentum in the country. Be it Congress, RJD or Samajwadi Party, these parties have continuously raised the issue of caste census amid elections. However, the government’s stand regarding this has not been made clear yet.
