New Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS) Addressing the Indian diaspora in New York on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that destiny brought me into politics. I had never imagined that I would become a Chief Minister one day.
Prime Minister Modi said, there was a part of my life in which I kept wandering in the country for many years. During this time, I ate wherever I could find food, slept wherever I found a place to sleep. There was also a time when I had decided something else, but destiny brought me into politics. I had never thought that one day I would become a CM, and when I did, I became the longest-serving CM.
PM Modi said that I was the Chief Minister for 13 years, then I became the PM. The people of the country have entrusted me with a third term with great trust. I am moving ahead with three times the responsibility. India is one of the youngest countries in the world, India is full of energy and dreams. Every day India is setting new records. Every day we get new news. Today only we have got good news that India has got the gold medal in men’s and women’s chess Olympiad. This has happened for the first time in the history of almost 100 years.
PM Modi said that in the last ten years, crores of people have got electricity connection in India, crores of toilets have been built. The people of India don’t just want rail connectivity, they want high-speed connectivity. Every city in India expects a metro, every citizen and village-city of the country wants the best facilities. In 2014, only 5 cities in India had metro, today 23 cities have metro, India has the second largest metro network in the world. In 2014, 70 cities in India had airports and today more than 140 cities have airports, in 2014, less than 100 gram panchayats had broadband connectivity, today more than 2 lakh panchayats have this facility.
PM Modi said that in a decade India became the fifth largest economy. Every Indian wants India to become the third largest economy. The expectations of a large section of the country are being fulfilled. Clean drinking water is reaching the homes of a large number of people. Electricity has reached their homes. Now the people of India want a quality life. The work that used to take years earlier is now getting completed in months. Now India does not wait for opportunities, but creates them. In the last 10 years, India has created a new launching pad of opportunities in every sector. In just a decade, 25 crore people have come out of poverty. This happened because we changed the old thinking, we emphasized on making the poor strong.
