New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS) “It is a sad aspect of our social life that in some cases, people with resources roam around fearlessly and freely even after committing crimes. Those who are victims of their crimes remain scared and scared, as if they have committed the crime,” President Draupadi Murmu said on Sunday during a program related to judiciary.
In the two-day ‘National Conference of District Judiciary’ organized by the Supreme Court in Delhi, the President said that pending cases is a big challenge before the judiciary. All stakeholders have to find a solution to this problem by giving it priority.
He said, “Sometimes my attention goes to the children of mothers serving prison terms and juvenile delinquents. The children of those women have their whole lives ahead of them. Assessment and improvement of what is being done for the health and education of such children should be our priority.”
On adjournment of cases, he said that many people cannot even imagine the suffering that poor people face due to the ‘culture of adjournment’. Every possible measure should be taken to change this situation. The President said that during the last 75 years, the Supreme Court of India has made an invaluable contribution as a vigilant watchdog of the justice system of the world’s largest democracy. The Supreme Court has given a very respected place to the jurisprudence of India.
The President said that it is the district level courts that determine the image of the judiciary in the minds of crores of countrymen. Therefore, providing justice to the people with sensitivity and promptness at a low cost by the district courts is the basis of the success of our judiciary.
The President said, “I am very happy to note that the number of women in the judiciary has increased in recent years. As a result, in many states, women constitute more than 50 per cent of the total number of judicial officers. I hope that all those associated with the judiciary will set ideal examples of thoughts, behaviour and language free from prejudices regarding women.”
Along with this, the President gave importance to the local language and said that by making arrangements for providing justice in the local language and under local conditions, it may help in achieving the ideal of providing justice at everyone’s doorstep.
