All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday, alleging increasing incidence of “arbitrary use of powers” against Muslims, said that honors and dignity are fundamental rights provided by the Constitution.
Owaisi said this while addressing a gathering, referring to the alleged attack on a mosque in Maharashtra and the comment of BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shubhendu Adhikari had said in a statement that if the BJP came to power, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Muslim MLAs will be excluded from the West Bengal Assembly.
Owaisi also mentioned the comment of a BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh, who suggested that Muslim men should wear hijab made of tarpaulin to avoid inconvenience during Holi.
Referring to the comment of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to offer Namaz at home on Friday on the occasion of Holi, Owaisi cited Article-25 of the Constitution which guarantees religious freedom. He said that he will learn about religion not from the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, but from religious scholars.
Owaisi, MP from Hyderabad, said, “A Chief Minister is saying that the prayers of Jumme can also be recited at home … should I learn about religion from them?” There is freedom of religion here. … We will go to the mosque. Because, we have the right to religious freedom. Article-25 of the Constitution allows me. I will not learn my religion from you. ”
Yogi Adityanath recently addressed the media and thanked the religious leaders for deciding to make prayers on Friday after 2 pm in view of Holi.
Owaisi, referring to the 1947 partition, said that those who opted for Pakistan to flee to Pakistan were considered coward, while those who remained here considered India as their motherland and will continue to believe the same.
