India called the four important agreements with Singapore a 'new chapter in relations'

New Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with PM Lawrence Wong on Thursday. During this, the two leaders agreed to elevate the relationship to a ‘comprehensive strategic partnership’.

PM Modi is in Singapore on a two-day visit at the invitation of Wong.

“A new chapter in the relationship: Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established. PM Modi and PM Lawrence Wong held a fruitful meeting in Singapore today. The heads of state and government of the two countries agreed to elevate the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Various aspects in the areas of advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalisation, healthcare and medicine, skill development and sustainability were comprehensively reviewed,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a tweet.

Key agreements (MoUs) were signed between India and Singapore in the fields of digital technology, semiconductors, health cooperation and skills development that will further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

This includes the MoU on India-Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore.

MoU was signed between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India and the Ministry of Digital Development and Information of Singapore on cooperation in the field of digital technology.

An agreement was also reached between the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of India and the Ministry of Education of Singapore on educational cooperation and skill development. An agreement was reached between the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India and the Ministry of Health of Singapore on cooperation in the field of health and medicine.

Prime Minister Modi met PM Wong on Thursday and also discussed ways to boost bilateral ties.

During his meeting with Wong, PM Modi said that India wants to create many Singapores in the country.

He said, “Singapore is not just a partner country but an inspiration for every developing country. We also want to create many Singapores in India. I am happy that we are working together in that direction. The ministerial roundtable formed between us is a path-breaking mechanism.. Skills, digitalization, mobility, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, AI, healthcare, sustainability, cyber security.. areas of cooperation have become symbols of initiative…”

Before the talks, PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Singapore Parliament building. PM ​​Modi and Singapore PM Lawrence Wong met ministers and representatives of each other’s countries at the Parliament building.
