After the announcement of a “very large” trade agreement with India by US President Donald Trump, the Congress on Friday sarcasted the government and said that it seems that India shows the White House about the important decisions for itself.
The opposition party carried out the attack on the government following the statement of President Donald Trump in which he said that a “very big” trade agreement with India is going to happen. Trump had indicated significant progress in the talk process of a long -awaited bilateral trade agreement between the two countries.
Speaking at the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ program at the White House, Trump said, “We are doing some great deals. We are going to make another deal, maybe with India. Very big. We are going to open doors for India.”
Congress General Secretary (Communications in-charge) Jairam Ramesh said that “after repeating 16 times” he used a trade agreement to bring a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Trump has now announced that the Indo-US trade agreement is going to be signed in the next few days.
Ramesh said on X, “He calls it ‘very big thing’. It must happen – because this was because of this the operation vermilion was suddenly finished.”
The Congress leader said, “As is now clear, India has to get information about important decisions for itself from the White House in Washington DC.”
Trump’s remarks came at a time when an Indian party led by the chief negotiator Rajesh Aggarwal reached Washington on Thursday for the next round of trade talks with the US. The two countries are interacting for the interim trade agreement and trying to finalize the agreement before 9 July.
The high tariff declared by the US on 2 April was postponed by the Trump administration till 9 July. Agriculture and dairy sectors are difficult and challenging sectors for India to pay duty concessions to the US. India has not opened the dairy in any of its free trade agreement signed so far.
America wants some industrial items, automobiles – especially electric vehicles, wine, petrochemical products, dairy and agricultural products such as apples, trees fall and genetically modified crops.
India is demanding a fee concession for labor, gems and jewelery, leather items, apparel, plastic, chemicals, shrimp, oilseeds, grapes and bananas in the proposed trade agreement.
