New Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS) India has achieved tremendous success in the solar energy sector due to its good policies and has shown the Global South a path that many developing countries can follow to gain a lead in the field of solar energy, said Alain Ebobisse, CEO of Africa 50.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the ongoing ‘International Solar Festival-2024’ in New Delhi, Abobisee said that the ‘International Solar Festival-2024’ is a good platform to build advanced solar partnerships and exchange information. India has made a lot of progress in the field of solar energy and this needs to be done in other developing countries.
He further said, “Now the time has come to promote solar energy in Africa. I thank the International Solar Alliance (ISA) for developing a process that can accelerate the expansion of solar energy in Africa.”
India’s solar energy capacity has been increased 32 times in the last 10 years. Also, a target has been set to develop 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Addressing the first International Solar Festival virtually, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that clear vision and significant growth in solar energy has made India the first G20 country to meet Paris commitments in the renewable energy sector.
He further said, “Our solar energy capacity has increased 32 times in the last 10 years. This speed will help in achieving the target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.”
The International Solar Festival is organized by the International Solar Alliance (ISA). ISA was formed in 2015. Currently more than 100 countries are its members.
