India ready to remove 100 percent tariff on American goods: Donald Trump

भारत अमेरिकी वस्तुओं पर 100 प्रतिशत टैरिफ हटाने को तैयार: डोनाल्ड ट्रंप

Washington, 17 May (IANS). US President Donald Trump has claimed that India has offered to remove all tariffs on American goods. However, even after this, he said that despite clear success, he is not in a hurry to finalize the trade agreement.

In an interview to Fox News on Friday, Donald Trump said, India is the best example of a country that is determined to remove all its obstacles.

Trump said, “They make business almost impossible. Do you know that they are willing to cut their tariffs by 100 percent for the United States?” Despite this claim, he indicated, “Everyone wants to trade with us. How soon this agreement with India will be to see. I am in no hurry. We are not planning a business with everyone.”

Reacting to Donald Trump’s claim, Indian Foreign Minister S.K. Jaishankar said on Thursday, “The conversation is going on but is far from the final phase.”

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said, “Trade talks are going on between India and America. These are complex dialogues. Nothing is decided until everything is fixed. Any business deal should be mutually beneficial. It should work for both countries. This will be expected from the business deal until this happens. Any decision will be made before time.”

Trump’s statement came at a time when his team is considering to convert global trade dynamics to a large scale. On Friday, Trump had said that he plans to set new import duty rates for trading partners “in the next two to three weeks”. Trump has also said to consider the possibility of expansion of trade with Pakistan.

The US President had said that, after the border dispute in India, it was a major factor to grow the trade process in mediation for the ceasefire agreement between the two countries amid border dispute. “I want to trade with both countries equally to establish peace,” Trump said.

Not only India-Pakistan, but also the US-China is trying to reduce the dispute. Trump has described it as a generosity of the world’s second largest economy.

After the recent talks, the trade war between the US and China seems to be stopping. The US has reduced its rate on China from 145 percent to 30 percent and Beijing has reduced its tariff levels from 125 percent to 10 percent. Both countries are also considering further discussions. According to Trump, China would have been shattered if he had not signed a compromise with China.
