Chennai, October 19 (IANS). Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said drug eradication required integrated efforts and could not be achieved by any one state.
Addressing the police coordination meeting of southern states held in Guindy, Chennai on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that the southern states are working together on issues like law and order, water management and security.
He said the main focus is on dealing with issues like drugs, cyber crimes, banned tobacco products and interstate crimes. He also said that Tamil Nadu has made significant progress in tackling these types of crimes and the state police is taking strict action against drug gangs and peddlers in the state.
The Chief Minister said that those selling ganja and other intoxicants are being arrested and sent to jail and their property is also being confiscated.
It is noteworthy that the Tamil Nadu Coastal Police has cracked down on some international drug networks, resulting in the arrest of some former members of the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Sabesan, a top LTTE intelligence operative, was arrested in October 2021 as the main operator of a huge drug network run by Pakistan’s Haji Ali Network in collaboration with former LTTE operatives. Tamil Nadu Police has also collaborated with Kerala Police to crack down on the Ganja network in Idukki district of Kerala.
The Southern Police Network played a key role in destroying major ganja plantations in Naxal-dominated districts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
During his address at the conference of southern police officers, Chief Minister Stalin cited the recent arrest of some gang chiefs from Tamil Nadu in Andhra Pradesh and asked the forces to have regular communication with each other to curb interstate gang activities. Called for maintaining.
Senior police officers from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry participated in the police coordination conference of the southern states. Its purpose was to deal with interstate crimes.
