Damascus, October 6 (IANS). During his visit to Syria, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi supported the ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon and warned Israel that his country would respond to any attack. He said Iran’s support for Syria would continue under all circumstances.
At a press conference at the conclusion of his one-day visit to Syria, Araghchi said Saturday that his country will continue its assistance and coordination with Syria to support displaced Lebanese refugees, Xinhua news agency reported.
On the possibility of an Israeli attack on Iran, Araghchi said, “Any Israeli attack will be responded to. We have done that in the past as well.”
Araghchi stressed that any ceasefire conditions must be acceptable to both Palestinians and Lebanese.
Asked about Iran’s relations with Syria, Araghchi highlighted the deep strategic partnership between the two countries and said Iran’s support for Syria will continue under all circumstances.
During the visit, the Iranian Foreign Minister also held meetings with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi Jalali. During this, they discussed cooperation to ensure humanitarian assistance to Lebanese families fleeing the Israeli military attack.
A major missile attack was carried out by Iran on Israel on the night of 1 October. According to Israel’s Channel 13 TV news, at least 200 surface-to-surface missiles were fired from Iran, causing sirens to sound across the country and millions of people running towards shelters.
Iran says the bombing was in response to the killings of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniya, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps commander Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan.
Let us tell you that Iran has been openly supporting Hamas and Hezbollah.
Hours after the Iranian attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a security cabinet meeting, “Iran has made a big mistake tonight, and it will pay a price for it.”
Meanwhile, on Friday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei praised Tehran’s attack on Israel and described it as a ‘completely legal and legitimate act’. He said that all Islamic countries including Iran have one enemy and everyone needs to come together.
“The brilliant work of our armed forces two or three nights ago was completely legal and legitimate,” Khamenei said while leading Friday prayers from Tehran’s Grand Mosallah Mosque.
