Jerusalem, November 2 (IANS). The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that they had killed Izz al-Din Kassab. Qassab was a member of Hamas’s political bureau and also head of coordination and relations with other organizations in the Gaza Strip.
The statement said Kassab was killed in an airstrike in the town of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. According to Xinhua News Agency, this information is based on information given by the IDF and Israel Security Agency.
The statement also said that Kassab was an important power source of Hamas and had responsibility for building strategic and military relations with other organizations. Furthermore, he had the authority to direct terrorist attacks against Israel.
It was also reported that Kassab was one of the last high-ranking members of Hamas’ political bureau left in Gaza. His assistant Ayman Ayesh was also killed in the same airstrike.
Hamas has not yet confirmed Kassab’s death.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Iraqi militia groups claimed to have carried out at least six drone attacks on Israel. According to a statement from Iraq’s Shia militia group Islamic Resistance, the group’s fighters launched drone strikes on three “vital locations” in southern Israel, two in the occupied Golan Heights and one in central Israel.
The statements did not provide any additional information about targeted locations or casualties. The group said the strikes were carried out in “solidarity with the people of Palestine and Lebanon” and pledged to “rapidly target enemy targets.”
Since the start of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, the Islamic Resistance has repeatedly attacked Israeli and US targets in the area in a show of support for the Palestinians of Gaza.
