Jammu and Kashmir status is not a concession but constitutional right: Farooq Abdullah

National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah has said that restoring the state status of Jammu and Kashmir is not a concession but a constitutional right.

Addressing a meeting of NC workers in Pulwama district of South Kashmir on Wednesday, the former Chief Minister called for a return of complete democratic power in the area.

He said, “Restoring the state status of Jammu and Kashmir is not a concession but constitutional right. State status is not a gift, it is the right of the people, which was being demanded for a long time and the ruling government has repeatedly promised it.”

Abdullah assured the party workers that the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir is giving priority to these challenges.

He also criticized the status of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and said that it is an obstacle in real rule.

He said, “Jammu and Kashmir is vast, not only in terms of land but also in terms of its multi-layered culture. Governing it under the limited structure of the Union Territory is like flying kites without air.”
