Jammu Kashmir Assembly Election 2024 live: Voting has started at 7 am for 415 candidates contesting on 40 seats in the third and final phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Of these, 16 seats are in Kashmir and 24 seats are in Jammu. Today about 39 lakh voters will exercise their franchise at 5060 polling stations. The first assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir after ten years.

However, this is the first assembly election of this union territory after the removal of special status under Article 370 in August 2019. The National Conference and Congress are contesting the elections in alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, with the People’s Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) being the two other major players. In this way, a multi-cornered contest is being seen on 90 seats of the Union Territory.

Which are these 24 seats?

The 16 seats of Kashmir division where voting is going on today include Karnah, Trehgam, Kupwara, Lolab, Handwara, Langate, Sopore, Rafiabad, Uri, Baramulla, Gulmarg, Wagoora-Kreeri, Pattan, Sonawari, Bandipora and Gurez (ST) seats. Are included.

Similarly, in the Jammu division, the 24 seats where voting is taking place today include Udhampur West, Udhampur East, Chenani, Ramnagar (SC), Bani, Billawar, Basohli, Jasrota, Kathua (SC), Hiranagar, Ramgarh (SC), Samba and Vijaypur, Bishnah (SC), Suchetgarh (SC), RS Pura, Jammu South, Bahu, Jammu East, Nagrota, Jammu West, Jammu North, Marh (SC), Akhnoor (SC) and Chhamb seats are included.

Whose reputation is at stake?

The reputation of many political stalwarts including former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Muzaffar Baig and former ministers Taj Mohiuddin, Raman Bhalla, Basharat Bukhari and Sajjad Lone is at stake in the voting taking place in Jammu and Kashmir today.
