Jammu & Kashmir Election 2024 : Voting for the first phase of Assembly Elections – 2024 in Jammu and Kashmir is to be held on Wednesday (18 September, 2024). In the first phase, voting will be held on eight seats in Jammu and 16 in Kashmir, i.e. a total of 24 seats. The reputation of many big leaders including Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter Iltija, former state president of Congress Ghulam Ahmed Mir as well as women is at stake.

The 24 seats where polling will be held in the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections are – Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Zainapora, Shopian, DS Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag, Anantnam West, Anantnam, Shrigufwara-Bijbehara, Shangus-Anantnag East, Pahalgam, Inderwal, Kishtwar, Peddar Nagseni, Bhaderwah, Doda, Dowa West, Rambha and Banihal seats.
The credibility of these leaders is at stake
– Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir CM and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, is contesting from Srigufwara-Bijbehara seat. This seat is considered to be the stronghold of her family. However, she is pitted against Bashir Veeri of the National Conference.
– Former Jammu and Kashmir Congress state president Ghulam Ahmed Mir is contesting from Duru seat. He is a two-time MLA and is pitted against PDP’s Mohammad Ashraf Malik.
– Waheed ur Rehman is contesting from Pulwama. He is believed to be contesting against Mohammad Khalil of National Conference. Waheed ur Rehman has come out of jail after serving 18 months sentence under UAPA. A tough fight will be seen on this seat, because Talat Majid is in front here, he is also getting the support of Engineer Rashid’s party Awami Ittehad.
– CPM leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami is trying his luck from Kulgam seat. He has been an MLA thrice. There is an interesting contest on this seat too, because Jamaat-e-Islami’s independent candidate Shaeer Ahmed Reshi is in front here.
– Former Jammu and Kashmir Congress president Vikar Rasool Wali is contesting from Banihal seat. He is pitted against PDP’s Imtiaz Ahmed, BJP’s Salim Bhat and National Conference’s Sajjad Shaheen on this seat.
– BJP leader Shagun Parihar is trying her luck in Kishtwar elections. Here she is pitted against Sajjad Ahmed of National Conference and Firdaus of PDP. Let us tell you that Shagun Parihar’s father and uncle died in terrorist attacks.
Voting will be held in three phases
Let us tell you that this is the first election being held in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A. Before this, the last elections were held in 2014. After becoming a Union Territory, delimitation was done here, after which now there are a total of 90 assembly seats, voting for these is to be held in three phases.
