Ammu Kashmir Election Result: Newstrack was the most accurate in gauging the mood of the voters in the assembly elections held in Jammu and Kashmir after almost a decade and in the first assembly elections after Article 370 was amended and Jammu and Kashmir was made a Union Territory. Looking at the voting trend in Jammu and Kashmir, Newstrack published its exit poll immediately after the voting, in which the voters approved today’s results.
Newstrack had said on October 5 that according to exit poll data, a close contest is being seen in Jammu and Kashmir. Newstrack had given the National Conference and allies a 44 plus or minus five possibility. Whereas while giving 26 seats to BJP, it was said that three seats may decrease or three seats may increase. While giving 13 seats to others i.e. independents, Newstrack had predicted three more or less seats, while giving four seats to PDP, it had predicted two less or two more seats.
In the results so far today, National Conference and its allies have got 49 seats, which confirms Newstrack’s exit poll of 44+5=49. Similarly, BJP has got 29 seats which confirms the exit poll of 26+3=29. PDP has got three seats, this is also close to the exit poll of Newstrack 4-2=2. Whereas while giving 13 seats to others, Newstrack had said three more or less, in today’s results, others getting eight seats confirms the credibility of Newstrack’s exit poll.
While three pollsters – Dainik Bhaskar, India Today – C Voter and People’s Pulse – had projected the National Conference-Congress alliance to get at least 35 seats. After this comes BJP, which was expected to get at least 20 seats and PDP was said to get 4-7 seats.
This election in Jammu and Kashmir was very important as it was the first election after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, which divided the erstwhile state into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Congress fought the election together, while the People’s Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party contested the election independently.
Let us tell you that India Today-C Voter had estimated that Congress-National Conference may get 40-48 seats in Jammu and Kashmir, while BJP may get 27-32 seats. India Today-CVoter exit poll projections showed that the BJP was likely to get just 1 per cent of the votes in the Kashmir region, while the opposition’s India Bloc (including the National Conference, Congress and others) could get 41 per cent of the votes. The survey also predicted Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to get 17 percent of the votes in Kashmir. Others were expected to get 39 percent votes in this area.
Dainik Bhaskar’s exit poll had said that Congress may get 35 to 40 seats in Jammu and Kashmir, while BJP may get 20-25 seats.
According to the NDTV Poll of Polls, the Congress-National Conference alliance was expected to get at least 43 seats, followed by the BJP with 27 seats and the PDP with 8 seats. According to estimates, smaller parties could get 18 seats.
The Gulistan exit poll had predicted a very close contest, with the NC-Congress alliance getting 31-36 seats and the BJP 28-30 seats. It also indicated a kingmaker role for independent candidates, who were projected to get 19-23 seats and the PDP was projected to get 5-7 seats.
