New Delhi, November 16 (IANS). The news of a heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The death of 10 newborn babies has been confirmed due to fire in the NICU of Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College here. Whereas, around 47 newborns have been saved.
Giving information about the incident, Jhansi CMS Sachin Mehar said that 54 children were admitted in the NICU ward of Maharani Laxmibai Medical College. Suddenly a fire broke out, which an attempt was made to extinguish. But, most of the children were on oxygen support and the fire spread rapidly. The incident occurred at 5.30 pm.
Many fire brigade vehicles are still at the spot. It is being told that the fire in the hospital has been brought under control. According to the information, more than 40 children have been rescued so far in this incident.
As soon as CM Yogi Adityanath got information about this incident, he posted on social media platform District administration and concerned officials have been instructed to conduct relief and rescue operations on war footing. It is a prayer to Lord Shri Ram to grant salvation to the departed souls and speedy recovery to the injured.
Regarding this incident, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya wrote in X Post, “The news of the death of several infants in a fire accident due to short circuit in the infant ward of the Medical College located in Jhansi district is extremely sad and heartbreaking. It is a prayer to Lord Shri Ram to provide speedy recovery to the babies injured in the accident and give place to the departed souls at His feet. Om Shanti:”
As soon as information about the incident was received, on the instructions of CM Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and Principal Secretary of the Health Department left for the incident site. Brajesh Pathak wrote in Instructions have been given to conduct relief and rescue operations on a war footing. I myself am reaching the accident site. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to provide peace to the injured and speedy recovery.
Jhansi Division Commissioner Bimal Kumar Dubey said that at the time of the incident, 54-55 children were admitted in the ward. The injured children are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Jhansi Division DIG Kalanidhi Naithani said that the fire has been brought under control.
