Washington, Aug 29 (IANS) US Vice President Kamala Harris will face her first major test on Thursday after winning the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.
Harris will sit down with her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, for an interview with CNN anchor Dana Bash.
This will be Harris’ first major media interview as she faces increasing calls from both Republicans – including her rival for the White House, Donald Trump – and her running mate, Senator J.D. Vance. Democrats will have to answer unscripted questions in conversations with reporters.
He has not addressed any press conference except for a few questions from journalists travelling with him.
The interview will be his first big step. The next step will be the debate with Trump on September 10.
Trump and Vance have repeatedly challenged her in interviews and news conferences to take any steps that would halt her momentum. The race has changed since President Joe Biden dropped out and Harris rose to the top of the Democratic ticket.
Harris has given very few media interviews as vice president, and in 2021, one interview has been used to define her.
The NBC interviewer had asked if she planned to visit the border after Biden tasked her with tackling immigration.
He added that, “At some point … we’re going to be at the border. We’ve been to the border.”
The interviewer then said, “You haven’t been to the border”
She replied: “And I haven’t even been to Europe.”
“I don’t understand what you are trying to say. I am not ignoring the importance of the border,” she said.
Harris is facing criticism for not going it alone even after agreeing to the CNN interview.
“Last night, CNN announced that after 39 days of hiding from reporters, Kamala had mustered up the courage to sit down for a ‘joint’ interview,” the Trump War Room account wrote on X after the interview was announced.
