The new release date of Kangana Ranaut’s controversial film Emergency has been announced. The film will now release in theaters on January 17, 2025. Kangana shared its poster on social media on Monday morning.
Kangana is seen in the role of Indira Gandhi in the poster. Also, Vishal Nair will be seen in the role of Sanjay Gandhi, Anupam Kher as Jaiprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in the film.
Kangana wrote in the caption, “17 January 2025 – The epic story of the country’s most powerful woman and the moment that changed India’s fate. #Emergency – Only in theatres.” This release date is a week before Republic Day. However, Akshay Kumar’s film Sky Force has already been booked for the Republic Day weekend.
The film Emergency has been surrounded by many controversies. The film is based on the Emergency of 1975–77, which was imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film faced objections from some Sikh organizations, due to which the Censor Board withdrew the certificate of the film.
The film’s release was earlier scheduled for September 5, 2024, but it had to be postponed due to controversies and certification delays. Kangana had then told ANI, “I have made this film with great hard work and on a big budget. I did not get any support from the film industry. Everyone is suffering huge losses due to the delay in release. The censor board should take responsibility and soon The film should be released.”
The film is co-produced by Zee Studio and Kangana’s company Manikarnika Films. This is the second film made under Kangana’s direction. Before this, she had directed Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi in 2019.
