Karnataka Housing and Minority Welfare Minister Zamir Ahmed Khan said on Friday that the decision of 15% reservation for minorities in housing schemes is not new. He said that it was recommended by the coalition government of Congress-JDS in 2019.
He further said that according to the report of Sachar Committee, the central government already gives 15% reservation to minorities in its housing schemes. We decided that it should be implemented in the state as well. In such a situation, we have adopted only the model of the central government.
The Karnataka cabinet has decided to increase the reservation limit for minorities from 10% to 15% in various housing schemes of the state government. However, the BJP has become an attack on the government regarding this decision. The BJP has described it as inspired and unconstitutional by appeasement.
Khan said in his statement, “The cabinet sub-committee constituted during the 2019 coalition government recommended this. Now the proposal has been brought before the cabinet and has been approved.”
He said that there are a large number of people who do not have residential facilities within the minority community. The demand was arising for a long time that the reservation limit should be increased. Speaking on the attack of the opposition, he said that he is making unnecessary statements without understanding the fact.
