Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader PC George was granted bail to a Kottayam court on Friday for making hate remarks.
George was granted bail by Erattupatta’s magistrate court. George surrendered before the court on Monday and was sent to police custody on the same day.
He surrendered before the court after the Kerala High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail plea.
The High Court had dismissed his petition, saying that granting bail in such a case will send a wrong message in the society.
Former MLA George has been accused of making hate remarks against the minority community during a discussion on a TV channel.
He approached the High Court after the Kottayam District Sessions Court rejected anticipatory bail plea.
The case is based on the complaint lodged by ‘Muslim Youth League’ leader Muhammad Shihab, who alleged that George had made hatred comments on religious grounds.
