Kharif food grains production is estimated to be a record 1,647 lakh tonnes in 2024-25.

New Delhi, November 5 (IANS). According to the first advance estimates, India’s total Kharif food grain production could be a record 1,647.05 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) in the financial year 2024-25. This is 89.37 LMT more than last year’s figure and 124.59 LMT more than the average production of Kharif food grains. This information was obtained from the data released by the Agriculture Ministry on Tuesday.

An official statement said record growth in food grain production was witnessed due to good production of rice, sorghum and maize.

The total production of Kharif rice during 2024-25 is estimated to be 1,199.34 LMT which is 66.75 LMT more than the previous year’s Kharif rice production and 114.83 LMT more than the average Kharif rice production.

Kharif maize production is estimated at 245.41 LMT and Kharif nutritious or coarse grains production is estimated at 378.18 LMT.

Total Kharif pulses production during 2024-25 is estimated to be 69.54 LMT, while total Kharif oilseeds production in the country during 2024-25 is estimated to be 257.45 LMT which is 15.83 LMT more than the previous year.

Kharif groundnut production for 2024-25 is estimated at 103.60 LMT and soybean production is estimated at 133.60 LMT.

During 2024-25, sugarcane production in the country is estimated to be 4,399.30 lakh tonnes and cotton production is estimated to be 299.26 lakh bales (each bale weighs 170 kg). The production of jute and mesta is estimated at 84.56 lakh bales (each bale weighing 180 kg).

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare said that these estimates have been prepared mainly on the basis of information received from the states. The crop area received from the states has been validated with information received from remote sensing, weekly crop weather monitoring group and other agencies.
