New Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS) Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday slammed Islamic preacher Zakir Naik over his statement urging Indian Muslims to reject the Waqf Amendment Bill and said Muslims were being misled from outside the country.
The Union Minority Affairs Minister’s scathing condemnation comes after Zakir Naik’s inflammatory social media post in which he appealed to Muslims to ‘save Indian Waqf properties and reject the Waqf Amendment Bill’.
In his social media post, Zakir Naik said, “This is an urgent call to the Muslims of India to stop this evil, which violates the sacred status of Waqf and has a bad impact on the future of Islamic institutions.”
He also shared a link to scan the QR code and called upon the Muslim community to collectively support it to register their objections before the Joint Parliamentary Committee.
He said, “At least 50 lakh Muslims in India should reject the Wakf Amendment Bill. If we fail to stop the Wakf properties from being taken away, we will be held accountable.”
Kiren Rijiju strongly objected to this ‘interference’ and attempts by foreign powers to interfere in Indian affairs and warned the Islamic preacher against spreading false propaganda.
Sharing Zakir’s post, Rijiju wrote, “Please do not mislead innocent Muslims of our country. India is a democratic country and people have the right to express their opinion.”
It is noteworthy that the Waqf Amendment Bill, brought with the aim of improving the management of Waqf properties, is currently being discussed and deliberated upon by the Joint Parliamentary Committee.
