New Delhi, September 16 (IANS) Narendra Modi, the first Prime Minister born in independent India, will celebrate his 74th birthday on September 17. After the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Narendra Modi is assuming the responsibility of the Prime Minister for the third consecutive time. In the 10-year rule of the last two terms, PM Narendra Modi created the image of a visionary Prime Minister by taking many historic decisions. His friendly behavior with many heads of state has made Modi stand as a global leader.
Narendra Modi, who has been the Prime Minister twice with a full majority and once with a coalition government, has taken many tough and big decisions which will have a far-reaching impact on India’s development. On the occasion of his birthday, today we will talk about 10 bold decisions and public welfare schemes taken by him.
1. Jan Dhan Yojana
Along with Narendra Modi’s 10 years of Prime Ministership, the Jan Dhan Yojana introduced by him also completed its 10 years. This scheme is praised even outside the country. Under this, accounts were opened in the country without any minimum balance, in which women participated in large numbers. According to the government’s PMJDY website, till date more than 53 crore bank accounts have been opened under this scheme, despite the zero bank balance facility, about Rs 2,30,000 has been deposited in it till now. Apart from Jan Dhan Yojana, Namami Gange and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan schemes also made a lot of headlines, which worked to bring the cleanliness campaign on a war footing.
2. Demonetisation
On 8 November 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetization. Under this, 500 and 1,000 rupee notes were taken out of circulation in the country. Its main purpose was to curb black money, get rid of fake notes in the market and stop terror funding. However, the government also had to face a lot of criticism after this decision. Because common people had to stand in long queues to change their notes.
3. Make in India
Make in India has been an important revolutionary idea of the Modi government. Its aim is to make India a manufacturing hub and to facilitate investment in India by foreign companies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Make in India program on 25 May 2014.
4. Digital India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Digital India. Its aim is to empower the country in the digital sector. This includes improving online infrastructure, increasing internet connectivity, connecting rural areas with high-speed internet.
5. Aadhaar Act
The Modi government brought the Aadhaar Act in 2016. Under this, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) was established. If we talk about the benefits associated with it, then UIDAI provides subsidies, benefits and services to the citizens by issuing 12-digit Aadhaar number.
6. Ujjwala Scheme
PM Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana from Ballia on May 1, 2016. Its main objective is to provide LPG connections to BPL families. Under the scheme, eligible families are not given money for gas connection, rather the government pays Rs 1,600 to the gas company. Under this, beneficiaries are given cylinder, regulator, safety hose and DGCC booklet.
7. Surgical Strike
The important decisions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi include the surgical strike of 2016. Under this, the Indian Army carried out a surgical strike on Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) on 28-29 September 2016. This was a retaliation to the terrorist attack in Uri, Kashmir on 18 September 2016, in which 19 of our soldiers were martyred. You can guess the success of the surgical strike from the fact that the Indian Army killed more than 38 terrorists without any casualties. The Modi government has named this day as ‘Surgical Strike Day’.
8. GST
The major decisions of the Modi government include the implementation of GST. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley of the Modi cabinet implemented GST (Goods and Services Tax) on July 1, 2017. Under this, four GST slabs of 5 percent, 12 percent, 18 percent and 28 percent were introduced. Another ambitious scheme of the PM, Ayushman Bharat Yojana, is also included in his important decisions. Under this, beneficiaries get free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh annually. Recently, all people above 70 years of age have been included in this sector.
9. Article 370 and 35A
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a bold decision at the beginning of his second term and removed the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir by Article 370 and 35A. After taking this decision on August 5, 2019, the BJP government called it a historic step to correct a historical mistake.
10. CAA
The Modi government brought the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 regarding the CAA, which has been on the BJP’s agenda for many years. Its main purpose is to give Indian citizenship to people of non-Muslim religions coming from neighboring countries Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Under the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, there is a special provision to apply for Indian citizenship. This is specifically for certain individuals who have entered India on or before December 31, 2014 and belong to the Hindu or Sikh or Buddhist or Jain or Parsi or Christian community.
