West Bengal News Desk !!! Indian Police Service (IPS) 1998 batch officer Manoj Kumar Verma has been appointed as the new Police Commissioner of Kolkata. He has led many successful operations against Naxalites. Doctors were demanding the removal of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. Apart from this, doctors have placed many more demands before the government. Many demands have been accepted by CM Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee said at her residence that the new Kolkata Police Commissioner will be announced soon. The West Bengal government has transferred several police officers. Vineet Goyal has been given the charge of STF ADG and IG. Earlier, Manoj Kumar Verma was holding the charge of ADG (Law and Order). The government has also transferred 5 more police officers.
Manoj Kumar Verma has conducted many successful operations against Naxalites. Naxalites tremble on hearing his name. His strategy against Maoists in Midnapore and Darjeeling districts has been effective. He is originally from Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan. On 13 February 2009, the West Bengal government made him the SP of the most Maoist-affected Midnapore district. It is said that no officer in this district is ready to work fast.
Violence stopped in Barrackpur
Manoj Kumar Verma also served in Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana). He was promoted to the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police in Siliguri and Traffic (Headquarters). After which he was transferred to the post of Special Inspector General of Police in West Bengal Traffic Headquarters. He has also held the charge of DC Traffic in Kolkata Police. On 21 June 2019, the West Bengal government transferred Verma as the Police Commissioner there after repeated violence in Bhatpara and Kankinara areas following the announcement of the results of the 2019 general election on the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat.
Solved many robbery cases
As ADG Law and Order, many robbery cases have been solved. Under his leadership, the police solved many big cases of cyber crime. Manoj Verma was first awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMMS) on Independence Day 2017 as Inspector General of Police, Traffic Headquarters, West Bengal. He was awarded the Chief Minister’s Police Medal by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2019 after being transferred as Commissioner of Police, Barrackpore.
