Along with giving the verdict in Hindi, Shekhar Yadav has declared cow as the national animal. Shekhar Yadav was born on 16 April 1964. He is a graduate in law from Allahabad University, passing out in 1988. Registered as an advocate on 8 September 1990. After this he practiced civil and constitutional cases in Allahabad High Court. Shekhar Yadav has also worked with Uttar Pradesh government. He had the responsibility of Government Advocate and Standing Advocate. Besides this, he has also worked as a senior lawyer of Railways.
Shekhar Yadav took over as Additional Judge in Allahabad High Court on 12 December 2019. On 26 March 2021, he assumed charge as a permanent judge. He has given many decisions in Hindi language. He also received an honorary doctorate from Yesbad University Lusaka in Zambia in October. He described cow as the national animal. He said that cow is the only animal which releases oxygen. Cow has a fundamental right to protect itself. He refused to grant bail to the accused of cow slaughter. Now he has again come into the limelight by giving a latest statement.

There is a debate on his statement on social media. Justice Yadav attended a program of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Sunday. Many lawyers and volunteers were present in the program organized in Prayagraj. During this, the Justice had said that if you kill animals in front of children, they will not be able to learn compassion. Teach them to love animals and nature since childhood. Do not disrespect the gods and goddesses.
