On Tuesday, members of various opposition parties, including DMK, Trinamool Congress in the Lok Sabha, expressed their discontent on the government’s response to the issue of MNREGA and made a noise, on which expressing displeasure, Chairman Om Birla said that the members of the states should not bring the agenda of the states to the House.
Due to the disruption, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till about 15 minutes till 12 noon.
During the Question Hour, members of Kerala, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu asked the supplementary questions related to the outstanding money of MNREGA. Dissatisfied with the answers of Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Minister of State for Rural Development Chandrashekhar Pemmasani, opposition members came to the seat and started shouting slogans.
Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that an amount of 85 thousand crores of wages and materials has been released under Tamil Nadu’s MNREGA and the remaining amount will also be released soon. He said that Rs 54,515 crore for West Bengal was released under MNREGA and outstanding funds will also be released on completion of compliance. 43 percent increment under MNREGA in five years
Earlier, Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani said that misuse of money under MNREGA in West Bengal was detected and money would not be released until the irregularities are over. He said that in the last five years, there has been an increase in increments by up to 43 percent under MNREGA.
Expressing unhappy with the opposition members shouting slogans near the posture, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said, “It is not appropriate for the House to talk on the political agenda of their respective states during the Question Hour, do politics of states and to create disruption by asking questions based on their agenda.”
He said that you can ask questions, the minister’s accountability can decide, but bringing political agendas here is not in accordance with the dignity of the House. Birla said to the members of the opposition parties to go to their place and let the Question Hour run, saying, you do not want to run the Question Hour, want to create disruption in a planned manner in the House. When the commotion did not stop, he adjourned the proceedings for about 15 minutes till 12 noon.
