Nagpur, 6 May (IANS). Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) veteran leader and former Maharashtra Union Minister Anil Deshmukh on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision on the metropolitan municipality election while speaking to news agency IANS.
On the Supreme Court’s instructions to the Maharashtra State Election Commission of local body elections in the state within four weeks, Deshmukh said, “It is very surprising that for the last 4 years, no election has been held in Maharashtra, neither municipality, nor municipality, nor district council and no panchayat committee. Administrators have been seated everywhere. There was a lot of time demanding that the election of the municipalities and panchayat committee should be held for a long time.
He said, “It is a matter of great pleasure that the Supreme Court has ordered the state government that this election should be held at the earliest within 4 months. This process should be started by the state government as soon as possible. There was no representative of the municipality, district council, municipal corporation, due to which arbitrary business was going on with a right, now all that will be closed. He ordered the Supreme Court to be held as soon as possible.”
On May 7, on the orders of the Government of India with a broad mock drill across the country, Anil Deshmukh said, “The kind of situation that is currently in the middle of India and Pakistan, there is a possibility of war. If there is a war, then there should be their preparation. The air attack, the common people should be aware of it. If there is a air attack, then how is a vigilance, the mock drill is going to be 7 (Wednesday).”
He said, “It is a very good thing not to have a further war, but if the war situation comes, then at the least damage, the mock drill is very suitable for that. All people will get information about how to protect themselves.”
