Mumbai, April 12 (IANS) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday asked the Mumbai Metropolitan Area Development Authority (MMRDA) and other concerned agencies to expedite the work of Orange Gate-Marine Drive Twin Tunnel Project. The objective of this project is to reduce traffic congestion in South Mumbai.
CM Fadnavis said, “In response to increasing traffic issues in Mumbai, the government is giving priority to the development of infrastructure projects. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is developing a twin road tunnel between Orange Gate and Marine Drive to help reduce traffic crowds in South Mumbai.”
In the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the MMRDA and other concerned agencies to speed up the project with proper coordination and complete it on time through a time -bound plan. CM Fadnavis described it as an ambitious project that will give a new dimension to the transport infrastructure of South Mumbai, promoting the city’s economic and geographical development.
He said that the project should be completed by December 2028, which will save both time and cost for passengers. He said that the tunnel project is important to reduce the crowd and provide a uninterrupted connection between Eastern Freeway and Atal Setu. Early functions such as tunnel boring, land acquisition and pile foundation are currently in progress. A revised technical proposal has also been prepared in consultation with the traffic department.
He directed that the necessary improvements on SV Patel Road and Marine Drives should be made according to the plan. He said that when the tunnel is completed, there will be a decrease in traffic congestion and pollution in South Mumbai and urban transport will get a direction.
