Maharashtra Election 2024: All the political parties are busy preparing for the assembly elections to be held on November 20 in Maharashtra. Before entering the electoral battle, the issue of seat sharing among the allies is very important and the ruling Mahayuti has won in this matter. The issue of seat sharing is entangled in the opposition Mahavikas Aghadi alliance, but the ruling alliance has finalized the seat sharing.
According to informed sources, according to the seat sharing formula finalized in Mahayuti, BJP will contest maximum 156 seats. Shinde faction of Shiv Sena included in the alliance has got 78 to 80 seats and Ajit Pawar faction of NCP has got 53 to 54 seats. BJP has already announced the names of its candidates for 99 assembly seats in Maharashtra. The remaining two parties are also going to announce the names of their candidates soon.
Shah played an important role in seat distribution
Efforts were being made for several days to finalize the seat sharing in the ruling alliance. Recently, a long meeting of BJP and allies was held at the residence of Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Apart from BJP leaders from Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar were also present in this meeting. It is believed that during this meeting, Home Minister Shah has finalized the seat distribution after discussion with allies.
Although no official announcement has been made in this regard yet, all the parties have started election preparations according to the decided seats. After this, BJP has announced the names of candidates on 99 seats.
A lot of political turmoil after the last elections
Voting for 288 seats of Maharashtra Assembly is going to be held on November 20 in a single phase. Earlier, during the assembly elections held in 2019, BJP had won the maximum of 105 seats. Shiv Sena had won 56 seats and NCP had won 54 seats while Congress had won 44 seats.
The last assembly elections were fought by BJP and Shiv Sena in alliance but later differences arose between the two parties regarding the post of Chief Minister.
After some time, with the support of Congress and NCP, Uddhav Thackeray was successful in becoming the Chief Minister. However, later after the rebellion in Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, he had to resign from the post of Chief Minister. Then by supporting BJP, Eknath Shinde was also made the Chief Minister. Later, NCP leader Ajit Pawar also rebelled and joined the NDA.
Mahayuti suffered a setback in the Lok Sabha elections
During the recently held Lok Sabha elections, the ruling alliance had lagged behind the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance and Congress had won the maximum of 13 Lok Sabha seats. Uddhav faction of BJP and Shiv Sena had won 9 seats each. Now the ruling Mahayuti alliance is trying to show its strength in the assembly elections. The ruling coalition has also won in the matter of seat sharing.
Seat sharing issue entangled in MVA
On the other hand, the matter of seat sharing in Mahavikas Aghadi alliance is still complicated. There is a tussle going on between Congress and Shiv Sena’s Uddhav faction over some seats in Mumbai and Vidarbha. Both the parties are not ready to give up their claims and that is why the matter has become complicated. Maharashtra state president of Congress Nana Patole has also admitted that 30-40 seats are yet to be discussed. However, he expressed confidence that the seat sharing dispute will be resolved soon.
