Maharashtra Election 2024 : Before the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Nationalist Congress Party Sharad Pawar (NCP SP) faction has suffered a major setback. The Supreme Court has refused to stop NCP Ajit Pawar faction from using the ‘clock’ election symbol. Let us tell you that NCP Sharad Pawar faction had filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a ban on the use of the election symbol.
A three-judge bench headed by Supreme Court judge Surya Kant heard the petition of NCP Sharad Pawar faction on Thursday. He has sought an affidavit from NCP Ajit Pawar and a disclaimer will have to be written in it along with the election symbol ‘clock’ that the matter is under consideration in the Court. Along with this, also write that the order will not be violated in future and they have not done so in the past also. The bench said that if there is a deliberate attempt to violate our order, we can initiate contempt proceedings. The next hearing in this case will be on November 6.
On March 19, the Supreme Court had allowed the Ajit faction to keep both the NCP name and the ‘clock’ symbol, but with the condition that the Deputy Chief Minister’s side would give a public notice in leading English, Marathi and Hindi dailies informing the public that The allocation of the ‘Clock’ mark is subject to the outcome of the petition heard by the Court.
NCP divided into two groups
Let us tell you that after being expelled from Congress, Sharad Pawar had formed Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the year 1999, but last year NCP got divided into two factions. One faction is led by uncle Sharad Pawar and the other faction is led by nephew Ajit Pawar. NCP is part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance along with Sharad Pawar faction, Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT). At the same time, NCP Ajit Pawar faction is included in the ruling alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and CM Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena.
In February this year, the Election Commission recognized the Ajit Pawar faction as the ‘real NCP’ and gave it the real ‘Clock’ election symbol. Sharad Pawar has challenged this belief in the Supreme Court.
