Nomination papers of 7,994 candidates filed for 288 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra were found valid after scrutiny. Election officials gave this information.
The state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office said in a statement on Thursday that nomination papers of 921 candidates were found invalid. The process of filing nominations of candidates started on 22 October and ended on 29 October.
Let us tell you that the nomination papers were scrutinized on October 30, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is November 4. Voting for the 288-member state assembly in Maharashtra will take place on November 20 and the results will be declared on November 23.
The main contest for power is between the ‘Mahayuti’ alliance of ruling parties and the ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ (MVA), an alliance of opposition parties, although smaller parties and independent candidates are also in the fray. The grand alliance includes Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) while the Maha Vikas Aghadi, an alliance of opposition parties, includes Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar).
