Maharashtra Elections: This time Baramati is being considered as the hottest seat in Maharashtra Assembly elections because on this seat uncle Ajit Pawar is facing a tough challenge from nephew Yugendra Pawar. It is said that Yugendra Pawar is contesting the elections but behind him Sharad Pawar has put in all his strength to teach Ajit Pawar a lesson. Therefore, this election is being considered as a battle of prestige for both Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar.
Both the leaders have opened a front against each other through their election meetings. Baramati assembly constituency has been considered the stronghold of the Pawar clan, but in this fight between the two veteran leaders, the voters of Basmati are also seen trapped in a state of confusion. After giving a big blow to Ajit Pawar in the Lok Sabha elections, Sharad Pawar wants to give a big blow to him in the assembly elections also.
History of Baramati Assembly Seat
If we look at the history of Baramati assembly seat, this seat has been continuously occupied by Congress and then NCP since 1962. In 1962, Congress candidate Maltibai Shirole had won this seat. After this, Sharad Pawar won this seat for the first time in 1967. Sharad Pawar has been holding this seat for a long time and he remained MLA from this seat till 1990.
After becoming active in national politics in 1991, Sharad Pawar handed over this seat to his nephew Ajit Pawar. Ajit Pawar won this seat for the first time on a Congress ticket in the 1991 assembly elections. After this, he managed to win on Congress ticket in 1995 also.
Ajit Pawar has been winning for a long time
In 1999, Sharad Pawar had differences with the Congress on the issue of Sonia Gandhi’s foreign origin and he separated from the Congress and founded the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). In the 1999 elections, he fielded Ajit Pawar from Baramati on NCP ticket, in which Ajit was successful. After this, Ajit Pawar, as NCP candidate, managed to maintain his winning streak on this seat in the 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019 assembly elections.
Wife Sunetra was defeated in Lok Sabha elections
In the 2019 assembly elections, Ajit Pawar defeated Congress’s Gopichand Patalkar by a huge margin on this seat. Pawar had given a big defeat to BJP by winning by 1,65,265 votes. If we talk about the last three elections, the votes received by Ajit Pawar have been continuously increasing, but this time his political path is not considered easy.
During the recent Lok Sabha elections in Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule won by defeating Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar. Sharad Pawar is also considered to have a strong hold in Baramati region.
Election battle against nephew is not easy
This time a total of 23 candidates have contested the elections in Baramati assembly constituency, but the contest is believed to be between two members of the Pawar clan. Everyone’s eyes are on this war going on between uncle and nephew.
32-year-old Yugendra, who is challenging his uncle Ajit Pawar, is the grandson of powerful Maharashtra leader Sharad Pawar and son of Ajit Pawar’s brother Srinivas Pawar. Yugendra Pawar is the head of the family and close to NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar. Yugendra Pawar also played a big role in the victory of Supriya Sule during the Lok Sabha elections and now he himself is giving a tough challenge to Ajit Pawar as a candidate.
Ajit has to give time in Baramati
Ajit Pawar also has the big responsibility of campaigning for his party’s candidates in other areas of Maharashtra, but he has to devote a lot of time to Baramati. Ajit Pawar is also well aware of how big a political blow his election defeat in Baramati will prove to be for him. That’s why he has used all his strength. However, after Sharad Pawar himself entered the election campaign, his political path is no longer easy.
The path became difficult due to Sharad Pawar’s entry
After not performing well in the Lok Sabha elections, the assembly elections are being considered very important for the political future of Ajit Pawar. After rebelling against Sharad Pawar, he had decided to join the Shinde government, but Sharad Pawar now wants to teach him a lesson of rebellion himself.
This is the reason why the political battle of Basmati has become quite interesting. Only a member of the Pawar clan will win in this fight, but this fight will definitely evaluate the strength of both Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar in Baramati. If Ajit Pawar is defeated, a question mark will definitely be raised on his political future.
