West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the US to be sending illegal Indian migrants back into fetters and described it as “shameful”. At the same time, he expressed surprise whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi had lodged a protest against this “inhuman behavior” during his recent American visit.
While criticizing the central government, Banerjee questioned the government’s silence on the exile of Indian citizens and criticized the Central Government for not ensuring their return in a dignified manner. He emphasized that the Center should have ensured his return with respect.
He said, “Those who returned, were tied back to the fetters and sent back. Why? It is being said that this is their protocol. Prime Minister, when you were in America (on an official visit), illegal migrants were tied back and sent back from there. Protocols for different countries cannot vary. Humanity should be at the top. But, have you (Prime Minister) lodged a single protest against it. ”
Mamta expressed concern over the “inhuman circumstances” under which the deported people were sent back to India. The Chief Minister said that such behavior could have been avoided. He told, “It is shameful to tie the deported people back into the fetters and send it back.” This is a matter of great concern. ”The Chief Minister said that the central government should have arranged their aircraft to bring them instead of leaving the exile.
Refusing to comment on national security or foreign policy issues, the Chief Minister said that the government could ensure that the citizens of West Bengal be treated dignified dignified. He said, “If our people were posted, we could have taken responsibility for bringing them back.”
This statement of the Chief Minister has come under the backdrop of reports that it was said that many illegal migrants, including the people of West Bengal, were treated hard at the time of sending from the US.
