West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday that the situation in Murshidabad affected violence has stabilized. He said that he was given Governor C.V. Anand Bose has no information about the report given to the Ministry of Home Affairs on riots and the possible implementation of Article 356 in the state.
Banerjee, who left for a two -day visit to Murshidabad on Monday afternoon, said that she could visit even before, but she thought it appropriate to wait till the situation became normal.
Before climbing the helicopter for Murshidabad, Banerjee said, “I have no information about the report given to Bose’s Home Ministry. The Governor’s health is not good. Let us pray to God to get his early health.”
He said, “I could have gone to Murshidabad before, but if there is no peace and stability, then we should not go there and spread unrest. Stability has returned in Murshidabad long ago. Today I am going there.”
The Chief Minister said that she will hold a district review meeting in Barhampur today. Banerjee said, “Tomorrow I will visit the violence affected Dhulian and give compensation to those whose houses and shops were damaged.”
Bose has sent a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs on the recent riots in Murshidabad district, mentioning that “the double shadow of fundamentalism and extremism” has become a serious challenge for the state.
In his report, he suggested several measures, including the establishment of an inquiry commission and installing posts of central forces in the districts bordering Bangladesh. Apart from this, he wrote, “There is no need to say that provisions will also remain under Article 356 of the Constitution.”
With the implementation of Article 356 of the Constitution, there is a mention of the implementation of President’s rule in a state.
The Governor suggested several measures after the violence, in which at least three people, including one person and his son, died and many were injured. The riot took place amid opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Act. In the report, the governor also claimed that the riots appear to be “pre -planned” and the state government “was aware of the adjacent threat to law and order in Murshidabad”.
Meanwhile, Banerjee said that his party is standing with the central government on national security matters after the Trinamool Congress Pahalgam terror attack. “Our party is with the government on issues related to internal and external security,” he said.
