Kolkata, 7 April (IANS). The celebration of Ram Navami in West Bengal has been peaceful. The leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress have also taken out processions at their level on this auspicious occasion.
Due to the possibility of tension over the Ramnavami ceremony, almost the entire state, especially 10 marked sensitive areas and the paths of the scheduled processions were kept in security throughout the day and the cameras were monitored.
The center of attraction was the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Ram temple on the lines of the prestigious Ayodhya Ram temple in Nandigram in East Midnapore district, from where the Leader of the Opposition is Suvendu officer MLA. Meanwhile, the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly attended the Ram Navami ceremony in Bhawanipur, South Kolkata, from where the elected representative is Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Other senior BJP leaders, such as State Party President and Union Minister of State Sukant Majumdar and former National Vice President of the party Dilip Ghosh also participated in several processions taken out on the auspicious occasion.
Both Mazumdar and Ghosh accused the state government of imposing so many restrictions on Ram Navami processions as well as making such widespread security arrangements to create unnecessary panic among the people.
The two leaders claimed that such security arrangements and restrictions are imposed only when the question is of a Hindu religious festival. Ghosh said that when people are being killed in the entire state due to police, the police do not feel the need to search for weapons. However, the same police became very curious in searching for weapons during the celebration of Ram Navami.
Leaders of the Trinamool Congress, who attended the procession of Ramnavami, include party state general secretary Kunal Ghosh and party Lok Sabha members Shatbi Roy and Asit Kumar Mal. Almost all the rallies, in which the Trinamool Congress leaders participated, was the presence of party supporters coming from the religious minority community.
Political observers believe that this huge participation of the leaders of the ruling party in Ram Navami processions is an attempt to convey to the people that the Trinamool Congress is not against the Ramnavami celebrations.
A political analyst in the city said, “There is a famous saying that ‘if you can’t beat them, then join them.” In view of the enthusiasm among the people about the Ram Navami festival in West Bengal this year, the leaders of the ruling party also considered it wise to attend the festival, especially in the important state assembly elections to be held next year. “
