Imphal, January 1 (IANS). Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced here on Tuesday that the government will provide loans up to Rs 50,000 without any collateral to the people displaced by caste violence under the Chief Minister ‘Entrepreneurship Support Scheme’ (CMESS).
The Chief Minister said that the government has provided loans under this scheme to about 426 displaced people to support their entrepreneurial activities. He also urged people to apply for financial assistance under this scheme.
Addressing the media, he said that the startups funded and successfully running by the state government will provide employment to the violence affected displaced people. Seven such startups have been identified which are ready to provide employment to 432 displaced people.
He said that under the ‘One Family, One Livelihood Scheme’, the target is to provide loans up to Rs 10 lakh with 30 per cent subsidy to 5,000 beneficiaries. He said so far 745 have been shortlisted and nine have been provided loans for assistance. He encouraged the youth to apply and avail benefits under the scheme.
The Chief Minister said that due to the tireless efforts of the government, a total of 2,058 displaced families (7,549 persons) have been able to return to their native places. The government has released Rs 30 crore for distribution of Rs 1,000 per person to people taking shelter in relief camps and five installments have been completed so far. A total of Rs 280 crore has been released so far for operating relief camps.
The Chief Minister said that the government has also given a compensation package of Rs 32 crore for the affected farmers. Weekly medical check-ups are conducted in all relief camps and so far 18,911 visits have been made and essential medicines are being provided to the prisoners.
Biren Singh said that students living in relief camps have been given free admission in government schools and colleges, while for those studying in private schools, the government has borne 50 percent of the expenses.
