Former Prime Minister of the country Dr. Manmohan Singh said goodbye to the world. Manmohan Singh breathed his last in Delhi on Thursday (26 December) at the age of 92. The news of his demise sent a wave of mourning across the country. From the President, Vice President and Prime Minister to many big leaders and personalities of the country, they have expressed grief over the demise of Manmohan Singh. The Central Government has canceled all the government programs scheduled for today i.e. 27th December. Also, the government has announced 7 days of national mourning on the death of Manmohan Singh. On the other hand, Congress has also canceled all its programs today. Now the question in everyone’s mind is that when, where and how will Manmohan Singh’s last rites be performed?
Actually, Dr. Manmohan Singh has been a former Prime Minister. Therefore, his last rites will be performed with full state honours. Sources say that the last rites of Manmohan Singh will be performed on Saturday i.e. 28th December. The Central Government has appointed former Prime Minister Dr. Seven days of state mourning has been declared on the death of Manmohan Singh. This means that there will be mourning in the state from 26 December to 1 January. Congress has also canceled all its official programs for seven days in honor of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
When will the funeral take place?
The last rites of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will be held on Saturday. Its official announcement can be made today i.e. on Friday. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal told the media in Delhi late on Thursday night, ‘The last rites of former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh will be performed tomorrow (Saturday). We will announce it officially.
Where will the funeral take place?
Sources claim that former PM Manmohan Singh will be cremated with full state honors in Delhi itself. The last rites of most of the former Prime Ministers of the country are performed at a special place in Delhi. The last rites of Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were performed in the Rajghat complex itself. However, separate mausoleums of many former Prime Ministers have also been built. The tomb of Atal Bihari Vajpayee is always called Atal. However, the location will be selected only with the consent of the family of former PM Manmohan Singh. Sometimes cremation is also performed in the home state. The venue of the event has not been decided yet. The announcement of where Manmohan Singh’s last rites will be performed is expected to be made today.
What is the government protocol?
State protocol is followed at the funeral of any former prime minister. On the death of any former Prime Minister, before cremation, his body is wrapped in the national flag of India i.e. the tricolor. Apart from this, at the time of his funeral, he is also given a 21-gun salute. Not only this, national mourning has been announced on the demise of the former Prime Minister. Seven days of mourning has also been announced on the death of Manmohan Singh. During this period the national flag will remain at half mast. There will be no celebrations or public programs during the national mourning. A final farewell is also given as per the protocol for the last darshan.
