Singh, while appealing to the voters of Punjab before the seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections on June 1, had said that only Congress can ensure a development-oriented progressive future where democracy and the Constitution will be protected.

The senior Congress leader had also targeted the BJP government for implementing the Agneepath scheme and termed it as a threat to national security. In this letter written to the voters of Punjab, he had said, ‘BJP thinks that patriotism, bravery and service is worth only four years. This shows their fake nationalism.

Congress had released this letter of Singh, written before the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab, to the media on May 30. Singh had said that those taking training for regular recruitment have been badly cheated by the outgoing government.

He said, ‘The youth of Punjab, the farmer’s son, dreaming of serving the motherland through the armed forces is now thinking twice about enlisting only for a 4-year tenure. Agniveer scheme puts national security at risk. Therefore, the Congress party has promised to end the Agniveer scheme.

Attacking Modi, Singh had said, ‘I am keeping a close eye on the political dialogue during this election campaign. Modi ji is indulging in the most vicious form of hate speeches, which is purely divisive in nature. Modi ji is the first Prime Minister who has reduced the dignity of public discourse and thus reduced the seriousness of the post of Prime Minister.

The former Prime Minister had said, ‘No Prime Minister in the past has used such hateful, unparliamentary and rude words which were meant to target any particular section of the society or the opposition.
