Mumbai, December 31 (IANS). Valmik Karad, the main accused in the murder case of Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh in Beed, Maharashtra, surrendered at the CID office in Pune on Tuesday. This murder case was a part of a bigger controversy, in which the search for the accused was going on after the murder of Santosh Deshmukh.
A round of statements has started regarding the surrender of Valmik Karad. Sharad Power faction leader and MP Supriya Sule said, “Surrendered, should have been arrested?”
He said that Beed MP Bajrang Sonawane had also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the Beed Sarpanch murder case. This issue was also raised in the Lok Sabha during the last winter session. No one wants to do politics in this matter. People had taken out a march two days ago. We stand with the victim’s family and want them to get justice.
Supriya Sule said that I am very surprised that Karad shared a video on social media before going to the police. What is this surrender about? The important question is where was Valmik for 22 days? We will have to tell the country, not the state. This matter should be investigated rising above politics and the family should get justice.
Supriya Sule urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis that a meeting of all parties should be called and such things should be discussed. We need to work in this direction so that this does not happen again. This is the responsibility of all of us.
Valmik Karad, a close aide of Maharashtra minister Dhananjay Munde, surrendered before the police in Pune on Tuesday. He is accused of murdering a sarpanch of Beed district. He is also a wanted accused in an extortion case.
Before surrendering, Karad posted a video on social media in which he announced his arrest, saying that the charges against him in the murder case were due to political vendetta. He denied the allegations and said that he was innocent and his name was being dragged into the case.
